JAWUZ puts strike plans on hold

The Judicial and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (JAWUZ) says it has put on hold plans to strike over the long period of time for negotiations for improved conditions of service.

JAWEZ General Secretary Vincent Makondo has told QFM News that his union has received an invitation from government to chat the way forward concerning the negotiation for improved conditions of service following lifting of the wage freeze early this month.

Mr Makondo says the protest would be premature considering that government has engaged the union over the same issue.

Mr. Makondo says the union wants to see what is on the table of government following the invitation for a meeting.

He states that the problem his union had was that negotiations for improved conditions were taking long to start following the lifting of the wage freeze.

Mr. Makondo says now that there is willingness by government to start negotiations, the period to end the negotiations will depend on the bargaining unit.

He says the negotiations can even take a day depending on how the people on the bargaining unit will come to agree on certain terms.
