Government has directed that all refugees should be adequately screened if they are to stay in Zambia.

This follows the 9th Cabinet meeting which sat on 11th May, 2015 which recommended that the six thousand Rwandese in the country be given alternative status following the revocation of ceased circumstances.

Home Affairs Minister Davies Mwila says in this regard measures have been put in place to ensure that all Rwandese refugees are thoroughly screened and produce various permits to enable them work or stay in Zambia.

Mr. Mwila explains that those that will not meet the recommended criteria will be handed over to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.

He stresses that his ministry will work with the Rwandese government in this whole process.

The home affairs minister has since indicated that the screening is expected to begin by next month.
