OYV vows to defend Zambia’s democratic gains

The Operation Young Vote (OYV) has vowed to stand ready to defend Zambia’s multi-party democratic dispensation’s merits and gains.

The OYV is concerned about the alleged endeavors and maneuvers by a number of the Patriotic Front (PF) leaders and members to force Zambia to drift back to the ugly and repressive one party state.

Executive Director Guess Nyirenda says his organization finds such alleged endeavors and maneuvers not only cheap, narrow and retrogressive thinking, but also hypocritical.

In a statement to Qfm News Mr. Nyirenda notes this is besides being a sign of failure to appreciate the progressive direction the world’s electoral system has taken.

Mr. Nyirenda states that this alleged consistent push for Zambia to revert to the one party state is getting out of hand and must be stopped now.

He thinks that it is evident that the ruling political party’s members and their leaders require massive training and education on the political systems especially the unmatched merits and benefits of the multi-party democratic dispensation that accrue not only to the citizens but also the particular state in which it is practiced including to the whole world.

Mr. Nyirenda says his organization is worried at the deliberate and uncalled for lack of appreciation of the greatness of the multi-party democratic system by those that hold power.

He has cautioned that the PF leadership must be reminded that their calls, maneuvers and actions will catch-up and haunt them as they will not be in power for ever.
