Motherwell face relegation play-off

Sean Kelly and Lee Erwin

Motherwell will face a relegation play-off after St Mirren fought back to claim victory in Paisley

Neither side could find the net in a tense first half, during which adverse weather affected play.

The visitors went ahead when John Sutton converted a penalty after Thomas Reilly had fouled Lee Erwin.

But Jason Naismith scrambled in an equaliser and, after Well’s Scott McDonald had been dismissed, Stephen Mallan netted St Mirren’s winner.

Defeat for Well means they cannot finish above second bottom and the Lanarkshire side will face Hibernian, Queen of the South or Rangers over two legs in the Scottish Premiership play-off final.

More to follow.
