Kaseba joins others to mourn sister for Zambia’s envoy to India

Former First lady Christine Kaseba-Sata was among scores of Catholic faithful and Rufunsa residents that turned up to witness the burial of Zambia’s High Commissioner to India, Brigadier General Peter Tembo’s elder sister Matildah.

ZANIS reports that Dr. Kaseba-Sata arrived at St. Luke’s Mpanshya Mission Catholic Church at 09:45 hours where a requiem mass was held for Mrs. Matildah Tembo who died on Monday, May 11, 2015 after being hit by a vehicle while cycling to work.

And addressing mourners, Acting Rufunsa District Commissioner Judith Chama said government is concerned with the high number of road traffic accidents in the district that have continued to claim productive lives.

Ms. Chama says government will soon engage the Road Development Agency (RDA), Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA), Rufunsa District Council and other key stakeholders to advise where to put humps and speed limits in order to curb accidents.

She has called on RDA to replace vandalized road signs and re-do road markings that have faded especially along the Great East Road as a short term measure.

Ms. Chama has also implored motorists, pedestrians and other road users to observe basic traffic regulations in a bid to reduce road traffic accidents in the district.

Meanwhile, Police have charged MMD Shikabeta Ward Councillor, Steven Nyangu with dangerous driving who by press time was still detained in police custody awaiting to meet bail conditions before released on police bond.

Mr. Nyangu is immediate past and inaugural Rufunsa District Council chairperson when Rufunsa was declared a district in August, 2012.

Former Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources Minister Professor Patrick Kalifungwa, Zambia’s High Commissioner to India, Brigadier General Peter Tembo, Rufunsa District Chairperson Emmanuel Tembo and Heads of Government Departments attended the burial.

Others were Acting Chieftainess Mpanshya, Indunas, Priests, Nuns and St. Anna Laygroup members, the group were Mrs. Tembo belonged for 15 years.

Mrs. Tembo was born, 65, was born Katondwe Mission in Luangwa District and is survived with a husband, six children and eight grandchildren.

On Sunday, May 10, 2015, former Secretary to the Cabinet, Dr. Joshua Kanganja’s wife died on her way to St. Luke’s Mpanshya Mission Hospital after an accident along the Great East Road in Rufunsa District.
