The Media Liaison Committee (MLC) is taken aback by the statement attributed to Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Chishimba Kambwili that government is reluctant to enact the Access to Information Bill because of the conduct by the Post Newspapers.

MLC Spokesperson Patson Phiri says the enactment of the ATI Law cannot be delayed because of one media institution.

Mr. Phiri explains that the ATI will not just benefit the media houses but the people of Zambia as in general.

He explains that the enactment of the ATI Law is meant to close up the gap between those who are governing and those who are being governed.

Mr. Phiri says the media bodies have only been in the forefront pushing for the enactment of this law because they want to see a free flow of information which will benefit all citizens.
