The Drug Enforcement Commission in Luapula Province has arrested 19 Congolese nationals and 16 Zambians of Mpweto District for trafficking in various quantities of cannabis.

Public Relations Officer Theresa Katongo says those arrested include Mande Ngombe, 26, a fisherman of Mubanga village for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 2.038kg, Chola Jean, 41, of Kamusolo village for trafficking in 1.632kg of loose cannabis and Jackson Kibale, 32, a fisherman of Mfune village for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 1.630kg.

Also arrested and jointly charged is Gift Mwelwa, 28, a fisherman of Nkonkanya village and Katonga Mwalwa, 43, a fisherman of Mpweto District for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 1.270kg.

Others arrested include Augustine Kiabu, 37, a fisherman of Musholo village in for trafficking in 4.614kg of loose cannabis and Bernard Lukwesa, 26, a fisherman of Kadonshi village in Nchelenge District for trafficking in 3.248kg of loose cannabis.

The suspects were intercepted at Isokwe Island on Lake Mweru.

Meanwhile, the Drug Enforcement Commission in Lusaka through its Anti-Money Laundering Investigations Unit has arrested and jointly charged two Directors of Pulitos General Dealers for forgery and Uttering of false documents contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

The two Directors include Josephine Chinyanta, 46, of House No.1 Lunga Road, Kamwala Township in Lusaka and Petronella Mwaka Kasalwe residing along Shantumbu Road in Chalala area.

Particulars of the offence are that Josephine Chinyanta and Petronella Mwaka Kasalwe on dates unknown but between 1st January, 2015 and 20th April, 2015 with intent to deceive did fraudulently without authority alter Bank Telegraphic Transfer Advice amounting to $31,585 United States Dollars to show that the said transactions were genuinely processed and remitted to Japan by a named local bank for the purchase of motor vehicles when in fact not.
