The Zambia Electoral Alliance (ZEA) has hailed cabinet’s promptness to accept and approve the recommendations from the Electoral Commission of Zambia to create six (6) New Constituencies in the areas whose boundaries overlapped in other districts.
Alliance Spokesperson Guess Nyirenda in a statement says the move by the Patriotic Front (PF) Government through its cabinet is commendable as it will add value to the electoral process.
Mr Nyirenda says apart from increasing the constituencies, wards and polling districts that will enhance the electorates voting desires through the shortening of distances to polling stations and voting in a more specified area, the move will also enhance delivery of development as the provision of services and other necessities will be targeted.
He says ZEA is also of the considered view that this move will help the electorates not only to know and understand, but also relate closely and well with their candidates and leaders as the vastness of the constituencies is reduced.
Mr Nyirenda further states that the Zambia Electoral Alliance is thrilled by cabinet’s resolve not to conduct any elections in the approved constituencies until the 2016 Tripartite Elections.
He says ZEA calls on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) as it commences the voter registration exercise to also look at the new constituencies in terms of Electoral Conflict Management Committees and Voter Education Committees among other critical processes of elections.
