The United Front for Democracy (UDF), a loose alliance of five political parties, has submitted to Justice Minister Ngosa Simbyakula clauses in the draft constitution that should be tabled before parliament for amendment.

UDF Chairperson Danny Pule has told a media briefing in Lusaka today that the 50 plus one clause is one of the clauses they want Parliament to look consider for amendment ahead of the 2016 general election.

Dr. Pule says the Presidential Running mate is another clause they feel should not wait until a referendum is held alongside the 2016 general election.

He states that during their meeting with the Justice Minister this morning, they also submitted that by-elections should be avoided by amending the current constitution.

Dr Pule adds that the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation is also another important piece in the current draft constitution that all stakeholders should support.

He further states that having a fixed date for the general election should also be subjected to parliament for consideration.

The members of the United Movement Front include the Christian Democratic Party (CDP), People’s Party, All People’s Congress (APC), Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (ZDDM) and National Development Party (NDP).
