Rio Ferdinand and late Wife Rabecca
SIR Alex Ferguson, Edwin van der Sar and Darren Fletcher were among the sports stars who attended the funeral of Rio Ferdinand’s wife Rebecca Ellison yesterday.
The 34 year old tragically lost her battle with breast cancer earlier this month and was laid to rest on Wednesday in a private cermeony in Kent where many Manchester United stars attended.
According to The Sun, Sir Alex Ferguson attended the wake with some of the team’s players.
Former Manchester United star Nemanja Vidic also apparently attended to pay his respects.
The football star made the announcement that his wife had passed away last weekend via his club’s official website: “My soul mate slipped away last night. Rebecca, my wonderful wife, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.
“She was a fantastic loving mother to our three beautiful children. She will be missed as a wife, sister, aunt, daughter and granddaughter. She will live on in our memory, as a guide and inspiration
“Myself, my parents Janice and Julian, along with Rebecca’s parents Lesley and Stephen, would like to thank our families, friends and my club colleagues who have been rallied around in these desperate days, weeks and months.
The couple met over a decade ago, when she worked as an accountant and Rio was an up-and-coming footballer.
She leaves behind three children.
