Kitwe District Commissioner Chanda Kabwe
Kitwe District Commissioner Chanda Kabwe has hailed small scale farmers in the district for their contribution to economic growth of the country.
Mr Kabwe says this despite the small scale farmers facing numerous challenges in their farming activities.
He says the farmers in the district have produced more than 10,000 metric tonnes of maize during the 2014/2015 farming season.
Mr Chanda has since appealed to the corporate world especially those in the agro sector to help small scale farmers with the provision of simple agricultural equipment to enable them enhance their production.
Mr Chanda says Zambia can become the bread basket of Southern Africa if small scale farmers are empowered with simple modern agriculture machinery by the business community in the agricultural sector, by providing them with flexible agricultural loans for them to acquire the necessary equipment needed.
