K620, 000 raised for Esther and Sandra boxing match

EstherSuperior Milling Managing Director Peter Cottan has disclosed that K620,000 has been raised towards the successful staging of the boxing bout between Esther Phiri and South African boxer Sandra Almeida, representing 70% of the total budget.

Speaking during a Meet Esther Breakfast meeting in Lusaka this morning, Cottan, who is also a fund-raising committee Chairman, says the team is determined to ensure that Zambia hosts a world class boxing bout.

Cottan says about K150, 000 is remaining before next Friday’s bout at Government Complex.

He has appealed to Zambians to support Esther as she returns to the boxing ring next week saying she needs the full support of her fans.

And Boxer Esther Phiri says she is confident that she will return her belt next week Friday.

Esther says she retired from boxing because one medical doctor misled was sick until she did several tests which revealed she was okay.

Speaking at the same event, Agriculture Minister Given Lubinda who represented Sports Minister Vincent Mwale, said there is an urgent need for the corporate world to come on board and start promoting boxing in Zambia.
