President Edgar Lungu is tomorrow expected in Ikeleng’i district in North western province.

President Lungu who will be accompanied by British High Commissioner to Zambia James Thornton will visit landmine victims in Ikelengi district.

And British High Commissioner to Zambia James Thornton says he is delighted that he will be joining President Lungu on his visit.

Mr Thornton says he is delighted with the contribution British citizens are making to Zambia’s development, with Ikelengi being one area that has benefited from the support of many British citizens who are making a real difference among local communities.

He says there are many British Nationals and NGOs that are supporting Zambia’s development through various charity work, projects and businesses.

Mr Thornton points out that the establishment of a hydro-power station largely through the support of private British citizens has transformed Ikeleng’i district by providing electricity to schools and the hospital.

He says the availability of electricity is also attracting new investments, such as a pineapple processing plant, farms, new government buildings, quarrying and block making that will create employment for the locals.

The High Commissioner adds that the visit to Ikeleng’i will help him see for himself the various humanitarian and developmental projects and available opportunities for further cooperation between the two countries.
