Makasa appointed interim Roan United coach

Roan-Joseph-Sakala-300Ex-Zambia and Ajax Cape Town defender Hillary Makasa has been handed temporal reins at demoted Roan United.

Makasa takes over from veteran coach Fordson Kabole who suddenly quit on Monday with just nine games played in Faz Division One North following the Luanshya sides’ relegation from the Super League at the end of the 2014 season.

“Hilary Makasa is now our interim coach. Life must continue and we must move on,” Roan club chairperson Chisoni Miti said.

Makasa joined his childhood club as a second assistant coach in 2013 and this will be his first head coaching appointment since returning to football four years ago.

Roan is currently fourth on the Division One table with 15 points, just two points behind leaders Kalulushi Modern Stars.

Makasa’s first match in charge will be this weekend when Roan host Zesco-Luapula at Kafubu Stadium.

Meanwhile, Kabole quit after taking charge of Roan last October as the Luanshya side slid into relegation to end their eight year stay in the Super League.

“He tendered in his resignation on 11th May 2015 without stating any reason,” Miti said.

“This is a major setback for Roan because we enjoyed a good relationship with him.”
