IBA reminds broadcasters to uphold ethics & professionalism

The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has reminded all broadcasting stations in the country of the need to be ethical and professional in their work.

Speaking during a stakeholders meeting on Digital Migration in Lusaka this morning, IBA Board Chairman Brigadier General Justine Mutale says there is need for broadcasting stations to follow the programming standards provided for in the IBA Act.

General Mutale notes that television has a greater impact because it is a visual medium using pictures, sound and movements to capture complete attention, hence the need to be ethical at all time.

He says the IBA has done a lot of benchmarking to come up with new regulations to govern television broadcasting in Zambia in the digital era.

General Mutale says to this effect, two Statutory Instruments on content regulation and digital television broadcasting have been developed.

He states that digital migration will allow for efficient utilization of frequency spectrum, improved picture and sound quality and immense opportunity for Zambians to produce programs in order to meet the required threshold of 35 percent local content.

Speaking earlier, IBA Director General Josephine Mapoma says IBA values its engagement with various key stakeholders hence the need to have meetings so as to share the developments that have taken place.

Ms Mapoma says the purpose of the meeting is to update the stakeholders on the regulations and license framework under the digital television platform.
