The opposition Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) is disappointed with some Chiefs who have openly taken a partisan stance.

FDD Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza has told Qfm News via telephone that chiefs should distance from partisan politics.

He says a statement attributed to Chief Chipalo of the Bemba people in Luwingu District who said that he will mobilize young people to vote for President Lungu in the 2016 elections is regrettable.

Mr. Mwanza says it is against the republican constitution for chiefs to toll a partisan line.

He says this is the reason why the country should enact a new constitution to address such issues.

Mr Mwanza adds that there is need for the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to start taking action against partisan traditional leaders who openly campaign for certain political parties.

The FDD Spokesperson has since called on the traditional leadership in the country to ensure they draw a line between giving guidance and taking part in active politics.
