Chipimo calls on President Lungu to enact ATI

The opposition National Restoration Party (NAREP) has called on President Edgar Lungu to enact the Access to Information (ATI) Bill if he has nothing to fear in his governance.

And the opposition political party has called on President Lungu to call for a meeting with the opposition political parties and other stakeholders aimed at solving the problems the country is going through.

Addressing journalists on the state of the nation in Lusaka this morning, NAREP PresidChipimo 1ent Elias Chipimo Junior says the fears that the Head of State has cited have nothing to do with journalists who report on information given to them.

Mr. Chipimo says the problem President Lungu should be thinking of addressing is that of people in the government system who are leaking classified information to the media.

He says delaying enactment of the ATI Law is a hindrance to the promotion of transparency in the country, considering that the country has been waiting for this law for some time now.

And the NAREP Leader has observed that Zambia is the only country where the opposition and the government do not sit down to address the challenges facing the people.

Mr. Chipimo says there is an urgent need for President Lungu to call the opposition and other relevant stakeholders to strategize how economic challenges, high poverty levels and other issues can be addressed.

He says President Lungu should take a bold step by inviting the opposition to deal with the challenges the people are going through.
