MMD commends PF over constitution making process

The opposition MMD has commended the PF government for agreeing with them on the way forward in the constitution making process.

MMD Spokesperson Raphael Nakachinda says the party is on record saying the only practical way of having a constitution before 2016 elections is by taking those articles that do not require a referendum to parliament for enactment.

Mr. Nakachinda says the Bill of Rights and other articles that require going through a referendum can then be subjected to a referendum after the 2016 general election considering the time and the resources required.

He says the enactment of non contentious clauses through Parliament will be supported provided what will be presented in the house is what is actually contained in the draft final constitution.
