Chipolopolo coach, Honour Janza has called on his players not to be complacent with yesterday’s victory over Malawi.

Janza says the victory should however build momentum in the players ahead of the COSAFA tournament and Africa cup qualifiers later this year.

Janza is however pleased that the team played according to his philosophy of “high pressing” which yielded two goals in the second half.

Asked if he was not worried that the two goals were not from strikers, Janza said there is no cause for alarm especially that the team was playing in unison and according to the instructions given.

“Even defenders are players; I have seen the world Cup being won by a goal scored by a defender. What is important is that the team is operating as one” Janza emphasised.

Meanwhile Janza has expressed happiness at the way the team is jellying. The Chipolopolo trainer is particularly happy that the young, the new and the old are beginning to understand each other on the pitch, “which is a good sign that the team is progressing” He has singled out the Nchanga Rangers striker, Patson Daka as a promising player for the future.

And Jack Chamangwana, the assistant coach for Malawi says his boys put in their best but could not match Zambia’s experience. He is however confident that the lesson learnt from yesterday’s game will help his side with the preparations for the May 17-31 COSAFA tournament which will be held in South Africa.

Zambia beat Malawi by two goals to nil at a fully packed Nkoloma stadium in Lusaka. The first goal was scored by Power Dynamos defender, Christopher Munthali while Zesco United’s Kondwani Mtonga scored the second with a header.

The match was watched by several government officials led by Sports Minister, Vincent Mwale.

The Chipolopolo has since broken camp and will regroup next Sunday to begin preparations for the COSAFA tournament.
