ZRST asks motorists to be careful on roads as schools open

RoadsThe Zambian Road Safety Trust (ZRST) has urged all drivers in the country to reduce speed as the school season set off.

Trust Chairman Daniel Mwamba has told QFM News in a statement that tomorrow schools will be opened around the country and that during this period most children travel long distances to and from school and face high risk to road injury and death.

Mr. Mwamba recalls that in 2014, according to the Police, nearly 2,000 people were killed on the country’s roads.

He states that among these were more than 800 pedestrians, including vulnerable children who face grave risks as they walk to and from school every day.

He has urged all drivers to ensure that they reduce on speed and observe all traffic rules.

Mr. Mwamba says accidents are preventable, predictable and avoidable and if drivers take responsibility, many lives will be saved.
