Govt urges stakeholders to help interpret lifting of wage freeze

KAMBWILI-OFFICE

Government called on relevant stakeholders to help interpret the lifting of the wage freeze instead of resorting to denounce President Edgar Lungu’s pronouncement on the matter.

Chief Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili regrets that President Lungu’s pronouncement has been misunderstood.

Mr. Kambwili explains that the President directed the immediate commencement of the negotiations for improved conditions of service for civil servants which should be concluded by December 2015.

He stresses that this means that the negotiations should not go beyond December 2015.

Mr. Kambwili states that government attaches great importance to the welfare of workers and the lifting of the wage freeze demonstrates this.

He adds that government will continue to improve conditions of service for public service workers and ensure that their concerns are addressed through dialogue with their union representatives without delay.

Mr. Kambwili who is also information and broadcasting services Minister has cautioned the media to ensure they report accurately on issues to avoid misleading the public.
