DEC arrests two Ketete miraa traffickers

The Drug Enforcement Commission in Lusaka has arrested and jointly charged two businessmen of Katete District in Eastern Province for trafficking in 132 bundles of miraa.

Commission Assistant Public Relations Officer Chibu Tembo says Blessings Soko, 26, a Businessman of Chanida village in Katete District has been arrested and jointly charged with Eric Lungu, 24, a Businessman of the same abode for trafficking in 132 bundles of miraa weighing 42kg.

In another development, the Commission in Central Province has arrested a Pharmacist of Kapiri Mposhi for pilfering GRZ drugs.

Ms Tembo says Anthony Chileshe, 30, a Pharmacist of Kapiri Urban Clinic, residing at house No.347 Tazara Compound in Kapiri Mposhi District has been arrested for pilfering an assortment of GRZ Drugs including Anti Retro-Virus Drugs (ARVs). The suspect is currently on Police Bond.

Meanwhile, the Commission has arrested thirty-two (32) people countrywide for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in various quantities of cannabis.

Those arrested include Bully Muswela, 45, a Peasant farmer of Liyuba village in Chibombo District for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 260.4kg, Emmanuel Chilufya, 28, of Mapepala area in Serenje District for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 5.31kg and Idan Mwape, 30, a fisherman of Sakeni village in Mansa District for trafficking in 2.2kg of loose cannabis.

And in Northern Province, the Commission has arrested Lemmy Simfunkwe, 35, a Peasant farmer of Tenga Village in Mbala District and is jointly charged with his wife Jane Nalupundwe,34, and their 18 year old daughter for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 30kg and unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 100kg.
