Wina calls for a stop to cadres sharing land

Vice president Inonge Wina has called for a stop to the continued sharing of land by political cadres in the country.
Ms. Wina says land belongs to all Zambians including women.

She says time has now come for women in the country to demand their right to the God given land in Zambia.

The Vice president has also called on the Ministry of Gender and Child Development to collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure that a study is taken which will among other things ascertain the number of women that own titled land, women that own customary land and women that have access to decent housing and housing finance.

She states that this will help in ensuring that specific packages and solutions for specific categories of women are put in place.

Ms. Wina has further called on traditional leaders in the country to begin allocating at least 30 percent of customary land to women.

The Vice President was speaking this morning when she graced the launch of the Zambia National Building Society (ZNBS) ‘Women’s Mortgage Promotion’ in Lusaka.

Earlier ZNBS Board Chairperson Goodwell Kapema explained that the Women’s Mortgage Promotion’ will run for a period of two months starting from this month to July this year.

Mr. Kapema says women accessing mortgages through this promotion will have to open an account with the ZNBS and will be charged interest rate of 14 percent on every mortgage they acquire.

And Bank of Zambia (BoZ) Deputy Governor for administration Tukiya Kankasa Mabula expressed optimism that the ZNBS Women’s Mortgage Promotion’ will contribute to financial inclusion in the country.

Dr. Kankasa Mabula is particularly pleased that the promotion has targeted women.
