TIZ urges President Lungu to stamp his authority

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has urged President Edgar Lungu to stamp his authority and stop the abuse of public funds.

Reacting to President Lungu’s concern on the reckless spending in foreign missions as highlighted by the Auditor General’s report, TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu says it is unfortunate that the Auditor General’s report is being taken as a mere academic exercise.

Mr Lungu says President Lungu has a huge responsibility to ensure that those in foreign missions adhere to the guidelines in usage of public resources.

Mr. Lungu notes the need for the country to put in place stiffer laws to deal with perpetrators of abuse of public funds.

Mr. Lungu has also appealed to the law enforcement agencies to ensure perpetrators of abuse of public funds not only in foreign missions are thoroughly investigated and punished if found guilty.
