CTPD urges media to accurately report on extractive industry

Centre for Trade Policy and Development (CTPD) has urged the media in the country to reposition itself and begin to report accurately on issues in the extractive industry.

Speaking during a breakfast meeting this morning on the civil society perspectives of the 2012 and 2013 EITI reports for Zambia, CTPD Executive Director Isabel Mukelabai says there is need for the media to beMinersgin picking accountability issues raised in the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) reports.

Ms Mukelabai says the media should take keen interest in reporting about issues pertaining to the extractive industry considering the key role the media plays in heightening public debate on governance issues.

She says there is need for the media to actively engage with the civil society organizations and share ideas on how best certain issues affecting the extractive industry can be highlighted.

Ms Mukelabai notes the need for the media to reposition itself and begin to report accurately on issues in the extractive industry.

Ms Mukelabai has described as unfortunate that recommendations in the 2012 and 2013 EITI reports are not being implemented by government.
