K2.6M released for Ikeleng’i ultra-modern District post office

Government has released a total K2.6 million for the construction of an ultra-modern district post office in Ikeleng’i District in the Northwestern province.

ZANIS reports that acting District Commissioner Aggripa Chitambala disclosed this in an interview on Saturday.

Mr. Chitambala says once complete the new post office will provide a wide range of services for the benefit of the local people in the border district.

He further notes that the new post office will provide jobs in the district adding that scores of young people have so far been employed in the construction stage of the post office and in other projects taking place in Ikeleng’i.

Meanwhile, the contractor engaged to build the new district post office in Ikeleng’i District, Ted Mushinkula, has already begun construction works.

Site Engineer Douglas Chonto says his company will complete the project within the stipulated 48 weeks construction period.

Ikeleng’i District has no banking facilities and civil servants depend on the post office to access salaries.

The current Post office in the district was built in 1975 and is manned by only one officer.
