Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has visited a renowned surgeon in the United States as he looks to determine whether or not surgery is required to cure his hip injury.
Sturridge has endured an injury-plagued 2014/15 season in which he has featured in just 18 of Liverpool’s 54 matches this term.
The striker’s injury woes began in September when he suffered a thigh strain while on international duty, before injuring his calf as he prepared to return to action in October.
Another thigh strain picked up in November meant that the 25-year-old did not feature again for the Reds until January 31. Having then returned to the fray, Sturridge injured his hip against Manchester United on March 22 and has played just twice since then.
It seems highly unlikely that Sturridge will feature again before the season ends, and the England international may now go under the knife in the off-season as he looks to remedy his injury woes.
Sturridge headed to Boston for a consultation with Dr Peter Asnis, an orthopaedic surgeon who has worked with the Boston Red Sox who, like Liverpool, are owned by Fenway Sports Group.
It is not the first time that the 25-year-old has travelled to the United States for injury assistance, having spent time with the Boston Red Sox medical department last Christmas.
