It is unfortunate health institutions do not have backup power – ZMA

The Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) says it is unfortunate that health institutions do not have backup power generators in case of power blackouts.

ZMA President Aaron Mujajati says it leaves much to be desired if large hospitals like the University Teaching Hospital had sections of the hospital affected by the power blackout that hit the country on Monday night.

He wonders what the situation is for health facilities in the rural areas if the country’s biggest hospital has no sufficient power backup.

Dr. Mujajati says government should take collective measures and ensure health facilities have alternative sources of power in the event there is a blackout to avoid risking the lives of patients.

Dr. Mujajati states that it is government’s responsibility to ensure that health services are being provided to the people in a safe environment.
