Govt urged to ensure 20% sub-contracting policy is enforced

Chief Mumena of the Kaonde speaking people in Solwezi district has urged government to ensure the 20 percent sub-contracting policy is effectively enforced to afford more local contractors participation in the construction sector.

Chief Mumena points out that government should ensure that it comes up with policies which will favor local contractors in order to encourage more local people to participate in the construction sector.

The traditional leader notes that if the 20 percent sub contracting policy is implemented, it will help local contractors better their livelihood and effectively contribute to the development of the economy.

He adds that it is sad that the construction sector is dominated by foreigners who have access to funds and contracts at the expense of local contractors.

Chief Mumena notes that if the country’s poverty levels are to be reduced, local contractors should be empowered by awarding them contracts.
