Plans to remove Lungu’s immunity, mere scare tactics – Changala

Civil rights activist Brebner Changala says suggestions that President Edgar Lungu will lose his immunity once he leaves office for alleged mismanagement of the country have no justification but are mere scare tactics.

Opposition UPND presidential adviser Douglas Syakalima has been quoted in one of the tabloids as saying his party wants President Lungu’s immunity lifted after his tenure in order to pave way for investigations into what he has referred to as government’s questionable operations such as the constitution of the Mutembo Nchito tribunal.

Mr Changala says such a desire by the opposition UPND is merely a disruptive statement whose agenda is not for the benefit of Zambia.

Mr. Changala has told Qfm News by telephone that it is actually saddening that the UPND can spend so much time on such scare tactics before President Lungu could even finish his term of office.

He says if the President Lungu’s immunity is to be removed as is being suggested, the UPND will have to cite the gross mismanagement of the country which the Head of State has engaged himself in.

Mr Changala is of the view that as opposed to perpetrating personal agendas, the nation presently needs to pull in one direction especially that the country’s economy is not doing well.

He has advised that people in the country should concentrate on what builds them as a nation.

Mr. Changala states that all Zambians whether from the opposition or in the ruling party have an obligation to see to it that the country succeeds for the benefit of all its citizens.
