Chief Mumena commends Lungu for making changes to 2015 MRT

Chief Mumena of the Kaonde speaking in Solwezi has commended President Edgar Lungu for taking a bold step in effecting changes to the mineral royalty tax.

Chief Mumena however says next time; mining houses and government should dialogue before imposing taxes so that the country does not endanger the investment and not to put the workers at risk as many people would have lost jobs due to the changes in the mineral royalty tax.

Chief Mumena says the President needs to be commended because the decision was made in the interest of the people of Zambia as the situation would have resulted in a disaster had the president not intervened in the matter.

He adds that much as Zambians want to benefit from the country’s minerals, at the end of the day it should be a win win situation for both the mining houses and the government.

The traditional leader has further advised those criticizing the move taken by the president to be realistic and imagine how the situation would have been if government had maintained the mineral royalty tax.
