Zambia’s economy is projected to record a boost once the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) Zambia US$ 355 million grant funded project has been implemented.

Visiting Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) vice president Maane Ewusi Mensah Frimpong has observed that this is despite the MCA Zambia US$ 355 million Lusaka Water Supply, Sanitation and Drainage (LWSSD) Project being implemented in Lusaka alone.

Ms. Frimpong who is based in Washington DC, says her organization hopes that with the LWSSD project it will reduce water borne diseases and financial losses related to floods.

She notes that her organization believes therefore that access to cleaner Water, improved sanitation and better drainage will in this case improve everyday lives of Zambians.

Ms. Frimpong states that the MCC is particularly proud of the project because it is a true collaboration between MCC of the US Government and the MCA Zambia on the other side.

She was speaking this morning in Lusaka when Millennium Challenge Corporation signed a US$9.7million worth contract with South African based UWP Consulting Pty which is the Construction Supervising Engineer that will supervise most of construction works under the US$ 355 Lusaka Water Supply, Sanitation Drainage project.

Earlier MCA Zambia Board member and Chairperson of the audit and finance committee Luke Chenjerani expressed optimism that UWP Consulting will play a critical role in ensuring that all contractors under the project carry out works on time, on cost and to the required quality.

Mr. Chenjerani has advised UWP Consulting to work in collaboration with other consultants that MCA-Zambia will engage for other assignments.

And UWP Consulting Director Christo Dudenski has pledge his firm’s commitment to ensuring quality of the construction works of the project.
