Dora to recontest Petauke seat

Former MMD Petauke Central Member of Parliament Dora Siliya has announced that she will recontest the seat following the Supreme Court ruling which cleared her and two others.

The Supreme Court upheld a High Court judgment which allowed Ms Siliya, former Malambo MP Maxwell Mwale and their Mulobezi counterpart Hastings Sililo to re-contest their seats subject to consideration by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).

Ms Siliya has told a media briefing in Lusaka that after much reflection, she has dec

ided to stand again in Petauke Central because she still wants to serve the people in the constituency.

Ms Siliya says her conviction is that governance works well when more women and the youth participate in governance issues.

She says there is need to create an atmosphere where women and the youth do not fear politics because of insults, persecution and simple mindedness by those who want power only for themselves.

The former Education Minister bragged that she beat all the men who stood with her in 2011 and hopes she will beat them once again when the by-election is held.

And Ms Siliya says none of the political parties have approached her so far on the possibility of adopting her to stand on their ticket.

She adds that she is still consulting widely, but that ultimately it is the people of Petauke who will decide which platform she will use to recontest the seat.

Ms Siliya,Mr Mwale and Mr Sililo had their elections as Members of Parliament Nullified for engaging in electoral malpractices.
