East CSPR hails early distribution of inputs

The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) in Eastern Province has urged government to ensure the right people benefit from the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) even as it embarks on the early distribution of the farming inputs.

CSPR Eastern Province Coordinator Maxson Nkhoma has told Qfm News that government should be commended for positive step it has taken to kick starting fertilizer distribution early for the 2015/2016 farming season.

Mr. Nkhoma notes that early fertilizer distribution will go a long way in boosting the morale of the farming community as it will help them plan well leading to increased production.

He says government should also ensure timely payment to farmers who will supply maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to enable them purchase the fertilizer and other farming inputs.

Mr Nkhoma has also called on the Government to review the performance of some of the cooperatives and see if they are in line with the needs of the farmers.
