African vaccination week for rotavirus preps progressing well

The Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health says preparations for the African vaccination week for rotavirus is progressing well.

Chief Immunization Officer for expanded programmes Elicah Kamiji explains that the Africa vaccination week which begins this Friday is aimed at giving life to infants and children by protecting them from diseases such as diarrhea and pneumonia.

Dr. Kamiji says 47 African countries will be looking at how Zambia will embrace the initiative and protect the children from the diarrhea virus.

She says in this regard, the ministry of community development mother and child health has partnered with key stakeholders such as the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the ministry of Health to create awareness to the public.

Dr. Kamiji states that the launch for the vaccination for rotavirus will be graced by First Lady Esther Lungu.

She adds that it is important for the public to ensure that they take the opportunity to have their infants vaccinated from rotavirus which cause severe diarrhea in children
