Govt praised for early distribution of 2015-2016 farming season inputs

The Small Scale Farmers Network has praised government for the early flagging off of the distribution of farm inputs for the 2015-2016 farming season.

Network President Edward Nsama says government should go a step further and ensure that farmers receive the consignment before the start of the farming season so that they prepare in good time unlike the case has been in the recent past.

Mr. Nsama says government should also procure top dressing fertilizer now so that it is also distributed on time.

He notes that the distribution of top dressing fertilizer has always been a challenge because it has always been distributed to the farmers late.

Mr Nsama adds that government should ensure that by August this year, farmers receive top dressing fertilizer.

Mr. Nsama has further called on government to consider increasing the number of beneficiaries of the Farmers Input Support Programme from the current one million small-scale farmers targeted.
