Republican Vice President Inonge Wina has re-emphasized that government will not let any Zambian citizen die of hunger due to the poor rainfall experienced in the country.

Speaking during the 2015 Agritech Expo Zambia in Chisamba today, Ms Wina says government has put the agricultural sector at the pedestal of delivering inclusive economic growth.

Ms Wina says government is fully aware that most of the farmers still face a lot of challenges ,and that there is still a lot that needs to be done to improve the competitiveness and productivity levels in the agricultural sector.

Ms Wina states that government is pleased that the Agritech Expo has brought together both local and international exhibitors to give farmers an opportunity to sample the dynamic agricultural technologies available on the market.

She says government has outlined a number of interventions through the National Agricultural Investment Plan (NAIP) aimed at scaling – up sustainable agricultural production and value addition for the benefit of the people.

Speaking at the same event, Agriculture and Livestock Minister Given Lubinda disclosed that government yesterday flagged off the distribution of farmers inputs for the 2015/1016 farming season.

Mr. Lubinda says before August, all farmers will have the farming inputs on their door steps even before the onset of the rains.

And Central Province Minister Davies Chisopa says it is motivating to farmers in Central province that they were paid their monies on time after supplying maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).
