Muchinga Chiefs want constitution enactment deferred

Lungu clinched fist in Mpika

Traditional Leaders in Muchinga province have appealed to President Edgar Lungu to defer the enactment of the constitution until contentious issues on land management are well resolved.

The eight traditional leaders who had a closed door meeting with the president in Mpika today have said there are many things that need to resolve before a new constitution is enacted.

The Chiefs who spoke through Chief Chikwanda, Chief Kopa and Chief Luchembe said the Grand Coalition on the enactment of a people driven constitution does not represent the views of all Zambians.

They have said that there is therefore no need to rush the constitution making process.

And in responding to the concerns of the traditional leadership, President Edgar Lungu said he is ready to release the constitution because people have been pressuring him.
