Lungu toasts PF victory

President Edgar Lungu says the PF and opposition political parties that participated in Tuesday’s by-elections have set the democratic bar very high and have shamed perpetrators of violence by showing that political competition does not mean enmity.

President Lungu has commended PF members for the remarkable campaign that has delivered all the three parliamentary seats and 10 out of 21 local government seats.

He says Zambians can be proud of themselves for going about their political differences peacefully.

Mr Lungu says the campaign will always remind Zambians that co-existence in diversity is possible.

President Lungu says the outcome of the by-elections has shamed politicians who have invested in violence and sectionalism.

He states that in any viable electoral democracy, the currency of political exchange should always be free and fair elections.

President Lungu observed that the self-proclaimed popularity by some politicians was simply hot air because they failed to put their claims to a test through the ballot.

The Head of State has commended PF members who abandoned their homes to camp in the three constituencies and campaigned from their hearts, and has assured them that their sacrifices have built the foundation of the party’s journey towards 2016 and beyond.

He has also commended the UPND for the formidable fight to try and win the elections.

The PF has scooped the Senga Hill,Chawama and Masaiti parliamentary seats.
