Agriculture and Livestock Minister Given Lubinda
Agriculture and Livestock Minister Given Lubinda has dismissed as misleading the suggestion that hunger is looming in the country.
Mr Lubinda says there are enough stocks of maize in the reserves to take country to the next season in 2016.
He explains that the consumption of maize in the country is 1.2 metric tonnes of maize per year and that currently the reserves have about 1.2 million metric tonnes of maize in storage.
The Agriculture Minister says this alone is enough for the country.
Mr Lubinda explains that when government allowed the sale of maize, they did so after an assessment of the quantity of maize the country had in stock.
Mr. Lubinda has since reassured Zambians that no one will starve because government has them covered.
