Agriculture Minister Given Lubinda has disclosed that government will before the onset of the next rainy season hold an indaba with key players in the agriculture sector to see how best diversification can be promoted.
Mr. Lubinda says the indaba will help come up with measures that should be put in place to encourage further diversification.
Mr. Lubinda laments that despite the country celebrating the production of bumper harvests of maize, the price of mealie meal remains high.
He adds that to continue producing a lot of maize which the country cannot sale profitably and in some instances the commodity ends up going to waste is unacceptable.
Mr. Lubinda has implored the farmers and especially small scale farmers to start looking beyond maize.
