The Public and Private Drivers Association of Zambia (PPDAZ) has called on the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) and the Police to intensify patrols and ensure only vehicles allowed to carry passengers transport people to prevent the loss of lives through accidents.

PPDAZ President Josiah Majuru has told QFM News that the country has continued to lose lives through road traffic accidents because people are being transported using wrong vehicles.

He says the recent accidents in Mazabuka and Kafue involving light trucks should act as an eye opener for relevant authorities to intensify road patrols.

He explains that registered buses are the only mode of transportation allowed to ferry people.

Mr. Majuru adds that law enforcement agencies cannot entirely be blamed for the accidents involving non registered public transport vehicles but that the passengers who use such modes of transport should also be blamed for not using public service vehicles.
