ZCEA doubts success of loan scheme for students

Zambia Civic Education Association has cast doubt on the success of the planned establishment by government of a loan scheme for students in higher learning institutions.

ZCEA Executive Director Judith Mulenga has told Qfm News that the students’ loan scheme can only work if student will not be required to pay back the money to government.

Ms. Mulenga says while the plan is a progressive one, what is needed is for government to allocate more funds to the ministry of Education to benefit as many students as possible in higher learning institutions.

She laments that the budgetary allocation to the ministry of Education is still not adequate despite government promising to increase the allocation.

Ms Mulenga stresses the need to place education as top priority.
