ZAMTEL says the availability of reading books in schools is catalytic in entrenching a good reading culture in pupils.

Speaking during a donation of 800 reading books to Nkomesha basic school in Chongwe district today by Zamtel in partnership with Book Buddies, ZAMTEL Chief Marketing Officer Evans Muhanga says the availability of reading books in schools will also address the problem of wrong spellings among pupils.

Mr. Muhanga notes that during the Zamtel “Zamspell it” competition, they realized that the problem of failure to spell words correctly is rooted in a poor reading culture which is why they had to look for a partner to collaborate with in sourcing books to donate to schools as an extension of the Zamspell it programme.

He adds that he is hopeful that the donation of the books will not be futile one, but will help pupils to improve their reading culture.

Mr. Muhanga has further appealed to the school management to take it upon themselves to ensure that pupils are given adequate time to study in order for them to improve their reading and spelling skills.

And Chongwe District Education Officer Malaundu Phiri has thanked Zamtel and Book Buddies for the donation stating that it will go a long way in inculcating a reading culture in the pupils.
