Lubansenshi Independent Member of Parliament Patrick Mucheleka has expressed concern over government’s intention to export maize.

Mr. Mucheleka says the move might result in the majority of Zambians facing hunger considering the dry spell recorded in most parts of the country which could affect maize production.

Mr. Mucheleka says it is therefore important that government through the ministry of Agriculture should wait until after this year’s harvest before considering exporting surplus maize.

He says government should consult widely on the issue of exporting maize or risk subjecting many Zambians to serious hunger.

Mr. Mucheleka has since advised Agriculture Minister Given Lubinda to halt plans to export surplus maize until after the 2015 harvest.
