Government has dismissed reports suggesting that it plans withdraw sponsorship for students on government bursary at the Copperbelt University (CBU).
Education Minister Michael Kaingu has told a media briefing in Lusaka this morning that government has no such plans.
Dr Kaingu says government has instead been working on modalities to effectively finance the higher learning institutions in the country.
He says government will continue to sponsor two thousand students at CBU who are on bursary pointing out that an advertisement for the bursaries has since been published in today’s Zambia Daily Mail.
He adds that his ministry is working tirelessly to establish a loan scheme for students in higher learning institutions.
Dr. Kaingu states that government attaches great importance to ensuring that students get the much needed attention to acquire their education.
The Education Minister has however regretted the delay in the publication of names of bursary applicants for the first year students at CBU which he says is as a result of government’s desire to ensure that all logistical parameters for supporting the students are in place.
Dr. Kaingu has since stated that everything has been concluded and all bursary applicants have been informed of their status through the institution.
