Govt advised to use money from Toll gates to construct roads

The Zambia Consumers Association (ZACA) has urged government to use funds being collected from Toll Gates to maintain and construct new roads.

ZACA Executive Secretary Samuel Simutunda says much as the Toll Gate is a good programme, if the money being realized is not being used for the intended purpose it will be as good as nothing.

Mr. Simutunda is however hopeful that those paying the toll fees will begin to see the benefits of paying such fees.

He adds that when people begin to see what the money they are paying is being used for, many truck drivers will be compelled to begin to pay and avoid using alternative routes as a way of avoiding to pay toll fees.

Mr. Simutunda further states that as an organization, they are in support of government’s move not to create alternative routes for those who want to avoid paying the toll fees, considering that the toll gates initiative is meant for general revenue to maintain roads in the country.
