ECZ sets Voter Registration date

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has announced that it will conduct Voter Registration from 17th August 2015 to 16th October 2015 ahead of the 2016 tripartite elections.

ECZ Public Relations Officer Raphael Phiri in a statement made available to QFM News says the exercise will be conducted at designed voter registration centres and at civic centres of all the councils.

Mr Phiri says upon closure of the exercise on 16th October,2015, the registration of voters will continue at the civic centres of all city, municipal and district councils up to 31st March,2016.

He says the voter registration exercise will be conducted by mobile teams which will be ba

sed at each gazetted voter registration centre for 14 days.

He explains that the team will move from one centre to the other according to the schedules to be publicized by the Commission.

Mr Phiri says during the exercise, the Commission will register new voters, remove deceased persons from the register, transfer voters on application from one polling station to the other, and replace destroyed or lost voter’s cards.

He states that every Zambian citizen who would have attained the age of 18 years as at 31st July 2016 and is in possession of a national registration card will be qualified to register as a voter.

Mr Phiri adds that all eligible persons will be free to register in constituencies of their choice, provided that they shall not be registered more than one.
