ECZ nods peaceful campaigns

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says it has not received any negative report with regards the ongoing campaigns in areas where by-elections will be held next month.

ECZ Spokesperson Cris Akufuna has told QFM News that the fact that no report of any manner of confusion has been received could be a sign that the campaigns are going on well.

Mr. Akufuna has however stated that the tolerance and co-existence that has been exhibited by all participating political parties could not entirely be attributed to the sensitization the commission usually conducts through the media and drama each time it is conducting an election.

Mr Akufuna says the commission will continue to monitor the situation in all areas where by-elections are due to be held next month despite having not received any negative reports.

And Mr Akufuna says the ECZ will in accordance with the provisions of the law carry out its mandate.

He was responding to a question on whether the commission has capacity to handle a constitution referendum alongside the 2016 general elections as proposed by government.
