24, 000 work permits issued to foreigners worries ZFE

The Zambia Federation of Employers (ZFE) has expressed concern over the 24,000 work permits issued to foreign workers as revealed by Home Affairs Minister Davies Mwila.

ZFE President Tyson Chisambo says every Zambian appreciates the need not to employ foreigners for jobs that can be done by Zambians given the high unemployment levels in the country.

Mr. Chisambo notes that the revelation by the Minister should be used as a basis to conduct a survey to determine the required skills for the jobs that are currently available and future skills required.

He adds that the survey can help the country design training programmes that will equip the youth with the demand driven skills and provide opportunities for them to get employed.

Mr. Chisambo has further called on the Minister of Home Affairs to provide disintegrated data in terms of the different skills each foreign worker who was issued with a permit has in order to determine its relevance in the country.
